With a career spanning nearly two decades, I, as a Master’s level registered social worker, therapist, family mediator, and parenting coordinator, have dedicated my professional life to supporting individuals and families facing various challenges. Embarking on this journey in 2004, my commitment to fostering positive change has been unwavering.

My expertise lies in navigating the complex terrain of relational distress and life stressors that impact children, youth, parents, and caregivers. Throughout my career, I have delved into specialized training, honing my skills in trauma and healing, parent-child relationships, child development, and attachment across the lifespan. This multifaceted approach enables me to address the diverse needs of the clients I serve.

In the capacity of a family assessor, my responsibilities encompass the creation of comprehensive reports, including Hear the Child reports (non-evaluative).

As I navigate the intricate tapestry of human relationships and mental health, my goal remains steadfast: to empower individuals and families towards healing, growth, and a brighter future.

I am a child and family therapist working in Kamloops, British Columbia. I have worked with families in conflict for over 15 years. My work with families is based around strengthening relationships and increasing understanding between loved ones. I enjoy my work with Hear the Child Reports as children often hold the answers to their own happiness. Children can be unsure how to share their hopes with parents that are in the midst of separating or engaged in conflict. In my work with families the children are often worried about their parents and the parents are just as worried about their children. It takes courage to end a relationship that no longer is serving the family unit. A Hear the Child report can provide a family with answers to move forward in their life in a healthy way for themselves and their children. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about my services.

The lives of children are affected by the changes that are made within the family unit and by decisions that are made for them. Hear the Child reports support children to provide their voices about some of the very important factors in their lives, including, but not limited to: where they live, who they live with and how much time they spend with each parent. The parent-child relationship is very important to the healthy development of children and is unique to each parent and child. Although children are not able to make decisions, their opinions are recorded and used to inform their parents, lawyers and the judge in part of the decision-making process.

When I am asked to conduct a Hear the Child interview, I take the time to understand issues and concerns before I meet with the child(ren). Special attention is spent on creating questions that will lead to a full exploration of the issues/concerns from all angles, using a respectful and supportive approach with the child(ren). The child(ren)’s responses will be recorded verbatim and the transcribed document will be provided to the parents, lawyers and presiding judge.

In addition to my 20 years as a Registered Clinical Counsellor with BCACC (British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors), I have been trained and have experience in the Hear the Child process; interviewing children; counselling children/youth; and in supporting families through challenging situations. I offer compassion, empathy, and respect to each family member with a goal of assisting children to have their voices heard by the adults who are working hard to make the best decisions for their children.

I have helped people through their most difficult moments for over 20 years as a disabilities caregiver, mental health/addictions worker and child protection worker. I am a registered social worker and trained in family mediation. I have interviewed hundreds of children and family systems regularly providing reports and information to decision-makers including the courts.

A Hear the Child Report is an empowering act of inclusion for your child that can ease their anxiety, anger and fear around family changes. Your child speaks, I listen carefully so you can make decisions about what comes next with a deeper understanding of what family and change mean through the eyes of your child. This can be transformative to the decisions that adults have to make for the family to move forward.

I provide a structured interview for your child to speak their thoughts and write a report that decision-makers can understand and act on to make the best decisions possible for your child and family.
