Areas of Practice Expertise
Trudi was called to the Bar in 1974 and has practiced exclusively in the family law area since approximately 1978. She is an accredited family law Mediator and family law Arbitrator. She has had training as a Parent Coordinator and is a member of the Collaborative Family Law Group.
Hear the Child Reports
Prior to the BC Hear the Child Society Roster being established, Trudi was regularly appointed by the Courts as a family advocate pursuant to the Family Relations Act. She has also been appointed by parties privately and has worked as an Amicus Curiae or “Friend of the Court” to provide assistance on issues in parenting.
Trudi has had training in all areas of family law, but has taken part particularly in courses on structured interviews with children and the impact of separation and divorce on children.
She finds that talking to children is one of the most important parts of the work that she does and that speaking to the children often provides an insight into the operation of the family as a whole.
She also believes strongly that children have a right to be heard and although they cannot determine their own parenting arrangements, their views are often very helpful.
